The 90's are "all that?"

Hi all!
I get this channel called teen Nick. Every night between 12 and 4 A.M they show tv shows that were on Nick in the 1990's. They call this lil block of programming, "The 90's are all that!" (after the popular show All that for those of you who haven't heard about it..) I personally wasn't a big fan of all that but anyhow..
What are your thoughts on the shows in this block? I honestly thought they'd have more variety. The only shows that i'm aware of that they play are rugrats, Doug, All that, Keenion and Kell as well as Hey Arnold. I haven't seen any others. I would've thought they'd bring back shows like Hey Dude, salute your shorts, what would you do and double dare. It's wierd cause they show clips of them but not actual episodes. (unless I've missed something..)
Any thoughts on this? I'm glad they're trying to bring some of the old stuff back! 90's FTW!

rugrats and hey arnold are awsome.

used to love those shows back in the day

also " rocco's moddern life" and jimmy neutron, oh and saved by the bell.

1 thing i'd like to see over here is a channel that shows all the old disney shows... recess, the weekenders, mickey mouse club, the old men in black cartoons, and even some of the stuff that was out for the younger geniration... bear in the big blue house, winnie the poo, pb and jelly otter etc

90's tv ruled

where's it all gone

Some of these sound familiar from the daughter watching this stuff on Cable.
They made a pretty decent movie out of Recess, one of the few kid movies I actually liked.

Post 9 by UniqueOne (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Friday, 07-Sep-2012 17:54:32

I actually never saw the movie..
OMGOSH! how could've I forgotten rescue 911? Every Tuesday night me, my mom and sister would watch it. wow!

Dexter's labratory, the amanda show, buffy the vampire slayer, angel, charmed, goosebumps, the nightmare room, and are you afraid of the dark were all awesome!
The 90's were awesome!

Post 11 by Master Alex Matthew SARcastic (Account disabled) on Saturday, 08-Sep-2012 5:59:56

Here in Australia, we have a Channel that shows all the 90's stuff. This Channel is awesome that we hardly watch the shows of today. It includes, Becker, Everybody Loves Raymond, Happy Days, Friends, Sienfield the Simpsons and so on. I really wish we had a morning program called Cheez TV which showed all the great cartoons such as Hey Arnold, Batman cartoon versions, Spiderman, and so on. Should include Looney Tunes, I used to watch that after school.

Post 12 by UniqueOne (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Saturday, 08-Sep-2012 14:36:17

oh yeah are you afraid of the dark was cool!
I think that channel in AUS sounds awesome!

Post 14 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Thursday, 01-Nov-2012 11:44:09

Unique One I was the same way. Every Tuesday at eight I'd plop myself in front of the TV with a bag of Gardettos and watch Resce 911. Then I discovered it was also being aired in complete hour form on the Family Channel, which meant I could watch it every night and twice on Tuesdays. I wish they would either bring the series back, either completely new or just in sindication, or release the old series on DVD. That, as far as I'm concerned, was the only true reality show since the crap we have now is so fake and focused ore on dissing everybody. The Cartrashians anybody? And don't even get me started on the so-called cartoons of today. That's one reason I won't be voting Romney tis election since I've heard him talk repeatedly about wanting to get rid of Sesame Street. Granted I don't care for Sesame Street but at least it tries to teach kids good life lessons. If you want to get rid of a cartoon get rid of Spongebob.

Post 15 by UniqueOne (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Thursday, 01-Nov-2012 18:57:44

lol brian I agree with you..accept for the part about Mitt wanting to get rid of that cartoon..was just a rumor lol..

Post 16 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Thursday, 01-Nov-2012 20:35:00

Even if it were true, what he should be doing is getting it back to its roots. I mean, veggie monster? Come on, cut the crap. If you're really that lazy as a parent that you can't teach your kids how to lead a healthy and balanced life, and resort to letting a TV show do your dirty work, maybe you shouldn't be a parent. Just sayin.

Post 17 by UniqueOne (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Saturday, 03-Nov-2012 18:49:51

Totally agree with you shattered! :)

Post 18 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Sunday, 04-Nov-2012 21:07:07

I've actually heard Mit himself talk about wanting to get rid of Sesame Street, so it's not just a rumor. And I agree about getting it back to its roots. No more of this political correctness bullshit. Cookie Monster is Cookie Monster, not Veggie Monster. We already had Veggie Tales.

Post 19 by chelslicious (like it or not, I'm gonna say what I mean. all the time.) on Sunday, 04-Nov-2012 21:17:57

veggie monster? are you guys serious? wow, what a damn shame.

Post 20 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Sunday, 04-Nov-2012 22:18:24

Sadly, yes. And that's true about Veggie Tales, although admittedly its message was more about Christianity than healthy eating or living.

Post 21 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Wednesday, 07-Nov-2012 2:46:47

My favorite shows were All That and Jimmy Neutron. are You afraid of the Dark was okay.

Post 22 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Wednesday, 07-Nov-2012 14:09:37

I hated Jimmy Neutron. His voice made me want to smash the TV, lol.

lol! Anyone remember the shows Doug and Hey dude? Prob my 2 fave. shows back then! :)

Post 24 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Thursday, 08-Nov-2012 11:23:37

Or You Can't do that on Television. Granted that was probably more of an 80s show than 90s bt it was still some god watching, I loved how if yo said I don't know you'd get slime dumped on you from ofstage and if you said water you'd get water dumped on you. Then sometimes if I remember right there were other words that you couldn't say during a given episode or the same thing would happen. Funy stuff. And I always liked how each episode began with a parody announcement like the ones o would sometimes hear when a TV show got preempted in favor of something else. "Lavern and Shirley kill each other will not be seen tonight so that we may bring you a special presentation." LOL. ThenI also liked how each episode had a given theme to it and everything that happened during that show was somehow centered around that theme.

Post 25 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Sunday, 11-Nov-2012 1:44:05

nope, that show doesn't sound familiar.

Post 26 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Tuesday, 13-Nov-2012 11:07:33

It aired on Nickelodeon. I think it originally aired in Canada and then they brought it to the US. Good watching though as I said, and infinitely better than the crap they put into kids' minds these days.

Post 27 by UniqueOne (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Sunday, 18-Nov-2012 14:24:08

Yup. Shows like that and Mr. Wizard were serious favorites of mine back in the day. Then there was Inspector Gadget.

Arthur 7th heaven family matters. and one about trains. wanna say shining station and or something like that.

Post 31 by Espking (Zone BBS is my Life) on Monday, 10-Dec-2012 12:55:13

it's called shining time station and is the prequel to tomas and friends, by hit entertainment.
speaking of that, barney and friends (particularly seasons 1-3) is one of my favorites. then we got the last batch of dic-produced adaptations of video games (mainly the sonic ones), awsum.

Post 32 by nicksharpmusic (Generic Zoner) on Wednesday, 19-Dec-2012 17:38:16

I remember "Shining Time Station," all of the TGIF shows from the 95/96 season onward until Family Matters and Step By Step moved to CBS and were canceled in 98. I wasn't really in to a lot of the Nicoledian shows accept "Today's Special," which also used to air on a few PBS stations. I watched a couple episodes of "Sweet Valley High" when it was in syndication I believe back in like 95 while waiting for reruns of "Blossome" and "Fresh Prince." Then there was "Ghost Writer," "Square One TV," 321 Contact, and "Where in the World is Carmen San Diego." Cookie Monster still ate cookies and Sesame Street didn't revolve around Elmo. Mr. Rogers and Reading Rainbow were also great!! The last show kids show on PBS that I really liked was "Lamb Chop's Play Along." "Zoobalee Zoo" was also really freakin good. The nineties ruled!!!!! Just so you guys know, if you want to hear old countdowns of nineties music, you should check out Rick Dees's websit at rick.com, and he archives and streams a show each week from his count down from the nineties and the eighties. Just hit W until you see the a link that says "Weekly Top 40 90s addition," click on it, and you should be good to go. There's also a bunch of interviews with some nineties stars on this site called
roundtripwithdaveo.com. It's the site of a syndicated two hour nineties music show that airs on a few stations here in the states called funnily enough, "Round Trip with Dave O." The guy who hosts grew up in the 90s like so many of us did, and he really cares about the music and gets it. You should definitely check out some of the interviews if you're in to that sort of thing. Awesome topic!!! By the way, "Rescue 911 rocked!!!!" You also can't forget the original "Degrassy High/Junior High," the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," which was a late 80s/early 90s overlapping show, and the shows based on the Ramona books that aired for a minute on PBS way back in the early 90s.

Post 33 by UniqueOne (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Saturday, 22-Dec-2012 23:31:12

very interesting post! TGIF was awesome every Friday night that's where you'd find me..lol..unless I had somewhere to be..I remember reading rainbow and arthur!

Post 34 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Sunday, 23-Dec-2012 11:03:00

Ah yes, the days when TV was still worth watching and not bogged down by political correctness bullshit. I remember the video game shows. My favorites were the Super Mario Brothers Super Show (especially the Legend of Zelda shows that aired every friday), Sonic the Hedgehog (the more lighthearted one) and Captain N; The Game Master. Thenin the late nineties there were Power Rangers in Space and Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog. That last one was one of my favorites. Unfortunately it ended after only one or two seasons and it also ended on a cliffhanger.

i never liked rugrats, found them to be extremely overrated (a bit like spongebob is now). every, single minit, of every single day, rugrats was on.. it was sooo anoying!

trying to think of what i watched during the 90's

the magic school bus, angela anaconda, dexter's laboratory, the magic roundabout, sailor moon, and that's just a few

Post 36 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Friday, 11-Jan-2013 14:28:17

Ugh. I hate Spongebob. He's almost as annoying as Barney was.

Post 37 by emily 25 (Account disabled) on Saturday, 12-Jan-2013 14:26:43

barney was actually pretty awesome.

:)

Post 38 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Monday, 14-Jan-2013 12:55:20

I suppose that depends on your definition of awesome.

Post 39 by emily 25 (Account disabled) on Monday, 14-Jan-2013 17:11:43

growing up, barney the dinosaur was 1 of my idols

i worshiped the very ground he walked on.... everything was barney backthen. if it had barney on it, then you could garantee that i had it

Post 40 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Monday, 14-Jan-2013 23:14:24

Actually, I was kind of the same way. Barney was one of the few TV shows that could keep my interest. Looking back on it, though, I cringe. Most of the other shows I watched, like TMNT, Thundercats, or Are You Afraid of the Dark, still have some coolness about them. But if I ever tried to watch Barney now, I wonder what the hell I was thinking.

Post 41 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Tuesday, 15-Jan-2013 14:24:06

The only Barney activity I ever enjoyed was making up new, cooler lyrics to that stupid happy family song. Well that and pretending Barney was a playable character in the old Mortal Kombat games, at which point Smoke would perform one of his fatalities on the purple pedofile. Usually the one where he'd shove a bomb in his opponent's mouth. LOL.

Post 45 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Monday, 28-Jan-2013 2:39:05

Was Playdays similar to Reading Rainbow? the name rings a bell but I can't quite place it.

Woah, what is this? Rugrats and Spongebob are annoying? Seriously? Those are like my fav shows hahaha. No, I mean, Spongebob has gone downhill, I'll give you that, but back in the day... And the other shows mentioned here were awesome too. I used to love Recess, Magic School Bus, and of course Pokemon... We would rush home so we could watch Pokemon after school. Good stuff. And yes, Rugrats was totally on all the time, which was awesome! We would watch it all day if it were rainy or something hahaha. Good times. I have never heard someone call it annoying. I'm shocked. lol

Post 50 by Espking (Zone BBS is my Life) on Monday, 02-Sep-2013 15:35:42

tecnicly sponge bob is from the 90s (it first aired in the summer of 99), and the older family guy episodes are good (and unlike sb, it actually went uphill in recent years). also the tv series of 101 dalmations, that was so cute. animaniacs? yep. tiny tune adventures? no swet! mighty morphin power rangers? oh yeah, baby! hay arnald? yes! the street fighter cartoon? hadoken! cops? Yeah! ammerica's most wanted? One of our faves! who wants to be a millionair? double yeah! fresh gear? Yeah! the screensavers? Yeah!

Post 51 by Henry the Great (Generic Zoner) on Tuesday, 03-Sep-2013 13:35:40

how about unsolved misteries that guys voice use to give me the creeps lol. there also was a show I liked called beyond belief it use to be on fox on Friday's at 8 atleast where I lived. top cop was in the early 90's. how about for cartoons, Aladin, goof trupes, and tales spin.

Post 52 by Espking (Zone BBS is my Life) on Tuesday, 03-Sep-2013 14:24:42

Those were awsum! and what about the little mermade cartoon? ever scene that? I think that was first aired in 94 iirc. tecnicly It would be ok to mention the simpsons here as well. yeah, they're still on, but it was first aired in 89.

Post 54 by LeoGuardian (You mean there is something outside of this room with my computer in it?) on Wednesday, 04-Sep-2013 10:31:02

Rug Rats were particularly annoying to us parents, sorry. And the Wife at the center she works at, has a little Angelica in her charge, and she is as difficult in real life as in the show. Everyone thinks that little smart mouth and manipulative attitude is cute on a girl, but in real life it's not cute on any human being ever.
The only good thing the Rug Rats did was that movie Rug Rats Gone Wild, which we took the daughter to see when she was 8 or so. That was Rug Rats meet Wild Thornberries and Angelica met her match in the Thornberries' teenage daughter.

Post 55 by Espking (Zone BBS is my Life) on Wednesday, 04-Sep-2013 23:33:45

Post 57 by Espking (Zone BBS is my Life) on Monday, 07-Oct-2013 18:54:00

and the golden age of nick jr. alegra's window, gulla gulla island, little bear. all from before Viacom went into dangerous territory with nick's comity crap. Yeah, nick got downhill in 2004 and doesn't have as mutch good programming as It had back in the 90s.

Post 58 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Tuesday, 08-Oct-2013 17:17:10

Post 59 by Westcoastcdngrl (move over school!) on Thursday, 10-Oct-2013 12:15:35

You can't do that on television was first aired in Canada and is where Alannis Morissette got her big break.

Amanda Bynes, who is currently in a psychiatric facility in California, got her start on All That... she then got her own show called the Amanda Show and then made it into the movies.

Post 60 by SmoothSongstress (Account disabled) on Wednesday, 16-Oct-2013 17:56:49

Post 62 by UniqueOne (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Sunday, 19-Jan-2014 17:59:25

I totally agree with the poster that said about old nick shows. They for sure are not as good and the characters they've created are stupid and not good role models for the kids that watch them. Such as the show sam and kat..I mean, I've seen a few eps of I carley and it was an ok show but there's no real value to it..no lesson at the end..like Nick used to do with there shows.

Post 63 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Monday, 20-Jan-2014 20:56:39

Then there was Pinky and the Brain. I liked that it was adult enough that adults could enjoy it but not so much that kids couldn't watch it. THe best part is that Rob Paulsen and Maurice LaMarche seem to still be having fun voicing them when they make public appearances at cartoon conventions.Heck, Rob Paulsen lets Pinky put in appearances on his podcast fairly regularly. I remembber him saying once that out of all the characters he's voiced Pinky has a special place in his heart.

He's also been known to do voicemail or answering machine messages for certain fans. If you wanted, say Yakko or Pinky to be your voicemail greeting he's been known to do that occasionally. I've head he's also occasionally been known to give private voice coaching sessions over Skype, though from what I understand those aren't exactly cheap and you really have to be committed and to genuinely want it.
